తల లేకుండా 18 నెలలు బ్రతికిన కోడి! - Mike the Headless Chicken!

వినడానికి వింతగా ఉన్నా, ఇదే నిజం!. తల లేకుండా ఒక కోడి 18 నెలలు బ్రతికింది.
సాధారణంగా ఏ ప్రాణి కుడా తన తల లేకుండా కొన్ని నిముషాలు కూడా జీవించలేదు. అలాంటిది, ఒక కోడి తన తల లేకుండా 18 నెలలు బ్రతికిందంటే చాల ఆశ్చర్యంగా ఉంది కదా!.
వివరాలలోకి వెళితే, అమెరికాలోని Fruita, Colorado వద్ద Lloyd Olsen అనే ఒక రైతు తన భార్య Clara తో కలిసి వారి జీవన ఆధారమైన ఒక కోళ్ళఫారం నడిపేవారు. అంతేకాకుండా చుట్టుపక్కల నివసించే వారికి అమ్ముతూ డబ్బు సంపాదిస్తూ వారి యొక్క జీవనం సాగించేవారు. దీనికోసం వారు ప్రతీ రోజు 40 నుండి 50 వరకు కోళ్లను చంపుతూ ఉండేవారు. 
ఒక రోజు అనగా, 1945 వ సంవత్సరం సెప్టెంబర్ 10 వ తేదిన ఎప్పటిలాగే చికెన్ సప్లై చేయడానికి Lloyd Olsen మరియు అతని భార్య Clara కలిసి కోళ్లను చంపుతున్నారు. అలా చంపిన ప్రతీ కోడిని ఒక డబ్బాలో వేసేవారు. ఎందుకంటే? సాధారణంగా కోడిని నరికిన తరువాత అది కొంతసేపు (అంటే తన ప్రాణం విడిచేవరకు) గిలగిల కొట్టుకుంటుంది. దీనికి కారణం కోడి నుండి తల వేరుచేసాక తన వెన్నుముక లో ఉండే సర్క్యుట్స్ లలో కొంతసేపటికి వరకు ఆక్సిజన్ మిగిలి ఉంటుంది. ఆ ఆక్సిజన్ కారణంగా కోడి కొంతసేపు బ్రతకగలుగుతుంది. తల వేరుచేయడంతో మెదడు నుండి ఎటువంటి సంకేతాలు రావు కాబట్టి. సర్క్యుట్స్ వాటంతట అవే చలించి న్యురాలను ప్రభావితం చేస్తాయి. దానితో కోడి యొక్క కాళ్ళు కదులుతాయి. ఆ సమయంలో కోడి యొక్క మెడ భాగం నుండి వచ్చే రక్తం అంతటా చిందకుండా ఉండడానికి దానిని ఒక డబ్బా లో వేస్తారు. అలా డబ్బాలో వేసిన కోళ్లలో ఒక కోడి ఏదోవిధంగా బయటకు వచ్చి అటుఇటు తిరగడం మొదలు పెట్టింది. 
అప్పడు Lloyd Olsen మరియు అతని భార్య Clara ఆ కోడిని పట్టుకోవడానికి ప్రయత్నించారు. కానీ ఆ సమయంలో అ కోడి వారి చేతికి దొరకకుండా అటుఇటు తిరుగుతుంది. అప్పుడు ఆ రైతు ఆశ్చర్యానికి గురయ్యాడు, కానీ కొంతసేపటి తరువాత మిగతా కోళ్ళవలే ఇది కూడా చనిపోతుందని అనుకున్నాడు. 
అలా అనుకొని పక్కనే ఉన్న కుర్చీలో కూర్చొని ఆ కోడి చనిపోతాదని చూస్తూ ఉన్నాడు. కానీ ఆ కోడి ఇంకా చావకుండా అటుఇటు తిరుగుతూ ఉంది. Olsen ఆ కోడిని చూస్తూ ఉండగా, ఆ తల లేని కోడినుండి చిన్నగా కోడి అరుపు వినిపించింది. అరుపు వినగానే రైతు ఒక్కసారిగా సంభ్రమాశ్చర్యానికి గురయ్యాడు. ప్రొద్దుటి కల్లా అది చనిపోతుందిలే అని అనుకుని ఆ కోడిని ఒక పెట్టెలో పెట్టి ఇంటికి వెళ్ళిపోయాడు. 
మరుసటిరోజు వెళ్లి చూడగా ఆ కోడి ఇంకా బ్రతికేవుండడం చూసి ఇంకా ఆశ్చర్యానికి గురి అయ్యి!, 
తల నరికిన కోడి ఇంతసేపు ఎలా బ్రతికి వుంటుంది అని అనుకున్నాడు. మరియు ఆ కోడి తల నరికినప్పటికి తనకి ఏమీ అవ్వలేదాన్నట్టుగా సాధారణ కోడి మాదిరిగానే తిరుగుతూ ఉంది. 
ఆ దృశ్యం చూసి Olsen యొక్క మనస్సు కరిగిపోయి, ఆ కోడి యొక్క ఆలనా పాలనా చూడడం మొదలుపెట్టాడు.
మరియు అ కోడికి మైక్ అనే పేరు కూడా పెట్టాడు.
తల లేకుండా మైక్ తినలేదు, తినకపోతే బ్రతకలేదు. అప్పడు ఏంచెయ్యాలా అని ఆలోచించిన Oslen కు ఒక ఐడియా వచ్చింది. మైక్ కు ఆహారాన్ని ఇవ్వడం కోసం దాని గొంతులోకి నేరుగా అంటే అన్నవాహిక లోనికి చిన్న Eye Dropper సహాయంతో ద్రవ రూపం లో ఆహారాన్ని మరియు నీళ్ళని అందించేవాడు. మరియు ఒక సిరెంజ్ సహాయంతో దాని గొంతును కూడా శుభ్రపరిచేవాడు. తల లేకండా ఏ జీవైనా జీవించడం నిజంగా చమత్కారమే.
అందుకే మైక్ తొందరగానే చుట్టుపక్కల వారిని ఆకర్షించింది. వాల్లనోట వీల్లనోట మైక్ గురించి తెలుసుకున్న ప్రజలు ఆ తల లేని ఆశ్చర్యపరిచే వింత కోడిని చూడడానికి అక్కడి వచ్చేవారు. 
ఆ రైతు, మైక్ ని పట్టణానికి తీసుకోని వెళ్ళినప్పుడు అక్కడి ప్రజలు కూడా మైక్ ని చూస్తూ ఆశ్చర్యానికి గురయ్యేవారు. అప్పటినుంచి మైక్ మరియు Olsen ఫేమస్ అయిపోయారు. ఆ రైతు మరియు అతని భార్య మైక్ తో కలిసి యునైటెడ్ స్టేట్స్ మొత్తం షో లకు తిప్పుతూ దాని ద్వారా డబ్బులు సంపాదిస్తూ ఉండేవారు.
తరువాత ఒక రోజు అక్కడి ఒక ఫేమస్ పత్రికలో Olsen యొక్క ఇంటర్వ్యూ మరియు మైక్ ఫోటో పబ్లిష్ చేసారు. అలా అమెరికా మొత్తం తిరుగుతూ షో లు చేస్తూవున్నారు. ఒకరోజు షో ముగించుకొని Olsen మైక్ తో కలిసి ఒక హోటల్ లో బస చేసాడు. ఆ రోజు మైక్ గొంతులో ఆహరం ఇరుక్కొని ఊపిరి ఆడక ఆ హోటల్ లోనే చనిపోయింది.
ఇలా మైక్ తల నరికిన 18 నెలల తరువాత కన్నుమూసింది. అంతటితో ఈ ఆశ్చర్యకరమైన కోడి కధ కూడా సమాప్తం అయ్యింది. 
మైక్ చనిపోయిన తరువాత పోస్ట్-మార్టం లో తెలిసిన విషయం ఏమిటంటే? Oslen, మైక్ తల నరికినప్పుడు దాని యొక్క మెడ 45 డిగ్రీల కోణంలో తెగడం వలన మెడ భాగంలో ఉండే Internal Jugular Vein మరియు External Jugular Vein కట్ అవ్వలేదు. Jugular Vein ని తెలుగు లో గలసిరా లేదా గండికసిర అని పిలుస్తారు. 
Jugular = “కంఠము” Vein = “సిర” లేదా “నాళము”. 
మెడ భాగంలో రక్తం గడ్డ కట్టడం వలన లోపలి నుండి రక్తం బయటకు పోలేదు. మైక్ యొక్క తల వేరుచేసినప్పటికి దాని యొక్క “Brain Stem” కట్ అవ్వలేదు. శ్వాస తీసుకోవడం మరియు గుండె కొట్టుకోవడం ఈ “Brain Stem” ఆధీనంలో ఉంటాయి. కట్ చేయబడినటువంటి భాగం “Brain Stem” మీద పెద్దగా ప్రభావం చూపలేదు. అందుకే మైక్ అన్ని నెలలు బ్రతకగలిగింది.
